As Derek Zoolander once astutely said,
Never is this more true than in the case of your lips! Dry, chapped, irritated, and unpolished lips are simply not cute. Your skin is the largest organ of your body, did you know? The lips happen to be a main feature of your skin and prone to drying the most. Licking your lips to moisten them simply won’t do. The evaporation of the saliva and the presence of acids (to aid with digestion) hastens their dehydration.
Since lips need a little extra TLC when it comes to moisturizing, I thought I would share the ones that I have used personally that I stand behind. I’ve included options for different scenarios whether that includes being out in public, going to sleep, exercising, or whatever else it is you might be up to in your busy life.
This was a happy, unpllaned purchase during my spring break trip in Florida earlier this year! I have used Fresh’s Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment before, but the tinted rendering is marvelous for work or play! I especially love this bright pink, but they have 12 other color options as well. I’m very impressed its the staying power, the comfort in applying due to the smoothness of the product as well as the buildable color. As someone that enjoys testing and experimenting new products, this would be my top discovery for this year. I can absolutely imagine keeping it in my beauty arsenal for years to come. Plus, it has SPF 15 and does not taste like sunscreen at all!
Aquaphor Healing Ointment Advanced Therapy On-the-Go Pack | $5.29 (Pack of 2)
Aquaphor shouldn’t be underrated. Their healing ointment is an excellent treatment for dry, chapped lips. I prefer to use it in the evening before bed as it’s a denser, heavier product. It absorbs slowly throughout the night, which is beneficial as I’ve always been a mouth breather (lovely, I know). Other benefits to Aquaphor are it’s value as well as the fact that it’s multipurpose. Any excess of product on my lips will get massaged into my cuticles, which seem perpetually dry. I like the two pack so I can keep one in my purse and the other on my nightstand.
Rose lovers, heed my words! This is another regular in the dive bar that is my makeup bag. I personally really enjoy the scent of roses. The problem with some rose scented products, though, is that they can be overpowering. Fortunately, this is not. It’s got a subtle hint or rose and applies well. I prefer the tube packaging because though the tins are adorable, but I am skeeved out by hand germs. That said, the vintage charm of the tin makes it a great gift. It also lasts for a long time; a little pin sized dollop goes a long way!
Burt’s Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter |$7.75 (Pack of 2)
I’ve been a fan of Kiehl’s for a long time, and this balm is no exception. It is petroleum based though, so if that is not your style, be aware! This balm contains Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, both beneficial and healing to the skin. The best part? The scent/taste! I know Cranberry sounds unusual, but I adore it. It was delicious, and during the fall and winter, I really love the festive nature of it. Thanksgiving on your lips! The good news is that it also comes in Mint and Mango as well, so you can switch it out with the seasons!
Nivea is another classic brand that has had a solid foothold in drugstores for a long time. Marilyn Monroe was a fan! I particularly enjoy this lip balm for exercising or being outdoors for extended periods of time. It contains broad spectrum SPF 15 as well! It does taste a bit like sunscreen, but again, for being outdoors, going for a run, or hanging at the beach, it does a great job protecting from harmful sun exposure.
Let me know what you think or if there are other products I should try! Keep those lips moisturized, protective and most importantly, kissable! 🙂
