Hello all! I wanted to share some products that I’ve tried out this year and in most cases, recommend. Whether it was a rewards program sample, a newer brand that caught my eye, or an impulse buy, you know that experimenting with and testing beauty products is practically a hobby of mine at this point. I’m sharing my thoughts because for a lot of people, it’s hard to justify spending money on items you don’t really need. Hopefully some of my insights are helpful, or at least interesting!
I found these little gems at Whole Foods and gave the hydrating one a try. I love that you can purchase these little pods and not feel like you have a jar full of product that’s just sitting on your vanity or in your medicine cabinet slowly evaporating away. A face mask in smaller quantities like nügg produces is pretty genius because their purpose is to treat whatever is going on with your skin at that moment. If you need to hydrate, smooth, brighten, anti-age, calm, cool, or treat acne on any particular day, you can just pick one of their many options. I will say, even though they’re smaller, you’ll still get 3-5 uses out of one pod, which for less than $4 is a steal. Plus, I like that the ingredients are recognizable and the company aims to be as natural as possible.
My first awareness of BECCA cosmetics came from watching my favorite make up artist, Lisa Eldridge, using this very product in many of her tutorial videos. For some reason, I’d never thought to try it out, probably because I was so devoted to NARS The Multiple in Copacabana as my highlighter, not that there’s anything wrong with that! I saw this mini version which was better for my wallet and decided to take it home with me. I’m glad I did! This is a really lovely highlighter that you can add to the tops of your cheekbones, on your nose, your clavicle, and your cupids bow for a some healthy glisten and glow. A little goes a long way as well, so it should last for a while. Next time, I’ll likely buy the regular size since I know I love this one! I picked the shade of opal because it appeared to be a bit more neutral so I can wear it with any lip or eye. Also, opal is my birthstone!
This nighttime face mask is arguably this Korean brand’s best selling product. I love the simplicity of the packaging and the pink shade caught my attention when browsing Sephora. Luckily, I was able to find a mini version. Plus, watermelon? I love the smell, and this is the best part about this mask. It’s like a more refined watermelon Jolly Rancher! The thing is, I’m not sure I’d buy it again. For me personally, I am more interested in having a very hydrating face mask if I’m going to wear it overnight. This is more of a light, cooling gel. Refreshing for summertime, but otherwise, I think there are better masks out there. Plus, you have to apply it fairly quickly and you can’t really massage it in because it pills, which is my absolute pet peeve in beauty products. So if you love watermelon and have naturally oily skin, this might be worth trying. Scent and packaging is just not enough of a reason for me to repurchase.
This was recommended to me by a sales associate at Sephora when I was browsing the gift offerings in return for loyalty points. I’ve only used it once, but I really enjoy the caramel based scent that actually reminds me of my new go-to fragrance Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford, that I wrote about recently. It’s a very summery, beachy smell. Additionally, there is a tightening effect on the skin to mirror the tight bodies Brazil is famous for, which makes it a cult favorite among shoppers. This is thanks to the caffeine-rich Guaraná ingredient that constricts blood vessels. I was impressed by the fact that in spite of the tightening feeling, I still felt moisturized. I would consider purchasing this again in the future once my sample size runs out!
I was already a fan of Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Face Mask, and was delighted while grocery shopping at Whole Foods to see that they have a version for hair, and it’s intended for colored hair, which mine is. I love the smell of this and after 3-5 minutes, my hair felt silky, rich, but not weighed down or gunky. This brand uses a patented fruit stem cell technology and all of their ingredients are organic, if you’re into natural beauty products. It does say each pouch is a single use, but for me, I was able to get 2-3 uses out of it. This will depend on your hair thickness and length, but I have long, fine hair. Not too shabby for less than $4!
