Smörgåsbord V

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay in postings this week. Work has been insanely busy and I just have been harder pressed for time. That said, I had some ideas a-brewin` and I decided since they’re rather miscellaneous or komono (thanks Marie Kondo), I would do another round of Smörgåsbord! Alright Volume V; let’s do it.

I’ve found myself, coincidentally, making purchases at Sephora that they’ve categorized as “clean” products. I like this idea, but I don’t necessarily adhere to an exclusively “natural” beauty regimen, though as I’ve gotten older and with the boom of the wellness industry, I have been slowly gravitating to “cleaner” products. I like looking at the ingredients and recognizing most of them. Here are three “Clean at Sephora” items I’ve tried recently!

Biossance Squalane + Bamboo Deodorant | $14

“A clean, nontoxic, silky-smooth, non-staining stick formula that doesn’t contain pore clogging aluminum like antiperspirants do.”

After a recent health scare, I wanted to look into deodorants without aluminum, as some scientists feel it increases the risk of cancer. I found this product, which is formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates. It’s also dermatologist-tested, ophthalmologist-tested, noncomedogenic, nontoxic, EWG verified, vegan, and cruelty-free. I like all of that! But does it work?

Yes, it does and I really enjoy the scent! However, I do not think it is as effective during heavy exercise from my experience. At the same time, I’ve read that your body takes time to adapt to a more natural deodorant. Regardless, I would buy this again, especially since it doesn’t leave white marks on clothing, but I would also be willing to check out another natural brand.

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Sheet Mask | $12

“A silky soft, skin-fitting sheet mask that delivers a healthy drink of ultra-hydrating botanical oils and extracts for a dewy glow in just one use.”

This Japanese beauty brand is lovely and their sheet masks are as well. “The secret is a blend of lightweight rice germ oil (derived from the most nutrient-rich portion of rice packed with vitamin E and essential fatty acids), and a high concentration of botanical oils and extracts”. The serum has a milky texture and leaves your skin feeling really hydrated, plump, calm, and luxurious. Would absolutely buy again; they are worth the elevated cost. Plus, the brand gives back by supporting organizations dedicated to girls’ education!

Volition Beauty Snow Mushroom Water Serum | $62

“A hydration-boosting, pore-minimizing serum, powered by snow mushroom, which leaves skin simply healthier-looking.”

This was actually recommended to me by Sephora staff. Usually I do my own thing, but I can say it hasn’t disappointed! Mushrooms are definitely a skincare trend right now. This is a very hydrating serum I wear both during the day under makeup and at night. I don’t feel that it minimizes pores particularly, but otherwise, it does make my skin feel hydrated. “Snow mushrooms, nature’s sponges, can hold nearly 500 times their weight in water, delivering exceptional moisture and maintaining it long-term.” It also stimulates natural collagen production, which is responsible for keeping skin plump and smooth. This product is vegan, gluten-free, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and noncomedogenic, yay!

On a completely separate note, if you follow me on social media, you may have noticed I’m getting into funky socks. The quirky designs, cozy warmth, and pops of color give me joy in a very simple way. Here are some of my recently worn pairs! Can you tell I like dogs?

I also browsed the web for some other awesome socks that I would love to own! Take a look.
